Incidents Reported Across the Realm – Week 45

Compiled from reports filed with the Royal Constabulary of Eyehasseen.

1. The Black Coach of Elm Hollow

Two constables returning from night patrol reported being overtaken by a coach without horses, moving silently at great speed along the Elm Hollow Road. The lamps burned blue, and a single figure sat within, motionless. When one officer attempted pursuit on foot, the coach vanished into mist, leaving wheel marks burned into the earth as though scorched. Villagers have since refused to walk that road after midnight, citing “whispers beneath the hedgerows.”

2. Incident at the Bakers’ Guild Hall

An argument during the annual Flour Weighing turned violent when a bag of dough was discovered “still breathing.” The accused baker insisted it was a “living starter” gifted by his grandmother and claimed it sang hymns when properly fed. The Guild expelled him on the spot. The bag and its contents were seized by constables, though it reportedly continues to expand inside the evidence chest despite being sealed and salted.

3. The Silent Bells of All Saints

The great bells of All Saints’ Church began tolling of their own accord during the noon hour, though the ropes hung still. Witnesses said the sound grew steadily fainter, as though receding into distance, before ceasing altogether. When the bell tower was searched, each clapper had been removed and laid in a perfect circle on the floor. The sexton swore he’d locked the door himself—and has not been seen since.

4. The Night Visitor of Wren Lane

A widow residing alone reported nightly knocks at her door—three taps, a pause, then two more. When officers waited in ambush, they found only a damp footprint on the threshold, leading away toward the riverbank. The following morning, the same pattern of knocks was heard on every door along the lane simultaneously. Residents have since begun bolting their chimneys and speaking in whispers after dark.

5. Fire in the Snowfields

Shepherds near the northern pasture reported seeing flames dancing across the snow, leaving no smoke and melting nothing. Investigators found a blackened circle where the fire had appeared, along with several sheep standing motionless, eyes reflecting red in the lantern light. The animals have since refused to eat and now face east every dusk. The Ministry of Agriculture and Garden Ethics has cordoned off the field “pending atmospheric inquiry.”
