The frost is gone, the rivers run, and citizens again remember the discomforts of honest labor. All applicants must bring their own boots and a working sense of direction.


1. Riverbank Stabilizer

Rebuild the banks of the River Aram after winter erosion. Preference given to those unafraid of mud, leeches, or sudden philosophical thoughts about the flow of time.

2. Bridge Trumpeter (Seasonal Return)

Announce the arrival of barges and important pedestrians with suitable musical flourish. Must supply trumpet and lungs.

3. Flower Seller (Royal Permit)

Sell early blooms to brighten the gray streets. Smile encouraged, sneezing forbidden.
Apply: Palace Garden Gate, Mistress Petal’s stall, morning only.


4. Mud Cart Driver

Haul excess mud from the market square to designated dumping grounds. Must not mind laughter from passers-by.
Apply: Bureau of Municipal Transport, Yard of Wagons, bring boots.


5. Apprentice Barrel Cooper

Assist in repairing casks split by frost. Enjoyment of hammering noises a plus.
Apply: Cooper’s Hall, Dockside Quarter, ask for Old Pindle.


6. Public Bench Painter

Repaint benches with bright colors to encourage civic cheer. Avoid sitting until dry.

7. Rain Prophecy Recorder

Record predictions from weather prophets and compare to actual rainfall. Discretion advised when laughter occurs.

8. Well Depth Measurer

Measure depth and quality of wells recently replenished. Strong rope-handling and poor claustrophobia required.

9. Apprentice Cart Painter

Decorate delivery carts with floral motifs and slogans of optimism. Artistic spirit encouraged, spelling optional.

10. Street Bard (Mud Ballads Division)

Sing tales of heroism and puddles in equal measure. Payment dependent on applause and weather.
Apply: Guild of Minstrels, corner of Fiddle Street, before rain.


11. Windowbox Attendant

Install and tend flower boxes on civic buildings. Fear of heights or bees will end poorly.
Apply: Department of Public Ornamentation, Balcony Access Ladder.


12. Apprentice Glassblower (Spring Intake)

Join the glassworks as furnaces roar back to life. Must tolerate heat and Master Fioren’s poetry.

13. Keeper of the Municipal Brooms

Inventory, distribute, and collect brooms from sweepers. Must not attempt flight.
Apply: Sanitation Yard Office, near the lime barrel.


14. Lantern Wick Counter

Ensure every public lantern contains exactly one wick and no frogs.
Apply: Bureau of Illumination, Lantern Yard, Desk 3.


15. Street Philosopher (Probationary Appointment)

Stand at the corner of King’s Row and Ink Lane, asking “Why?” until relieved by superior.
Apply: Ministry of Public Thought, Attic Level, whisper your question through the keyhole.
