1. Night Watchman for Cathedral

Keep watch from dusk till dawn; report disturbances, wandering spirits, or suspicious rustlings in the cloisters. Lantern provided (oil not included).

2. Apprentice Cobbler

Learn the noble art of shoe repair under Master Treadwell. Must bring own awl and maintain cheerful disposition toward leather.
Apply: Treadwell’s Shoe Shop, Narrow Street, beside the tannery.

3. Keeper of the Royal Aviary

Feed, brush, and soothe the Kingdom’s messenger birds. Must not fear claws, noise, or unsolicited affection from the parrots.
Apply: Office of Couriers & Birds, Upper Bailey.

4. Bell Rope Inspector

Climb the Cathedral tower twice weekly to inspect bell ropes for fraying. Insurance not provided; bravery essential.
Apply: Sexton’s Quarters behind the north transept, after vespers.

5. Candle Dipper

Work in dim light crafting candles for civic and ceremonial use. Must tolerate beeswax vapors and ecclesiastical gossip.

6. Fishmonger’s Assistant

Clean and sort fish at dawn along the South Docks. Pay in coin and the occasional herring.

7. Village Crier Substitute

Stand in for the town crier on his days of rest. Must possess booming voice and know proper order of municipal gossip.

8. Graveyard Groundskeeper

Trim grass, polish headstones, and politely discourage visitors after midnight. Lantern and shovel supplied.

9. Clock Tower Attendant

Responsible for winding the great clock of Inverness each Moonday at dawn. Fear of heights disqualifying.

10. Lantern Polisher

Weekly polishing of street lanterns across the upper district. Must be able to work alone and tolerate fog.

11. Stablehand at the Royal Post

Feed, brush, and occasionally comfort temperamental courier horses. Free hay meals included.
Apply: Royal Post Stables, South Gate.

12. Rat Exhorter

Not an exterminator — an exhorter. Must convince rats to leave politely without the use of poison. A knack for persuasive rhetoric desirable.

13. Mirror Maker’s Apprentice

Assist in the shaping and silvering of mirrors. Must not fear one’s own reflection or those of others.
Apply: House of Glass, West Quarter.

14. Library Night Clerk

Oversee the quiet hours in the lower stacks. Responsibilities include dusting, cataloging, and ignoring whispers from the history section.
Apply: Samuels Hall of Reading (Night Door), whisper thrice.

15. Tester of Porridge Consistency

Royal kitchen seeks tester for quality assurance of morning oats. Must distinguish between “hearty,” “stodgy,” and “unfit for nobility.”
